Nippon Ichi has really been working hard to make their presence known on the PSP. Along with Spectral Souls and Generation of Chaos, they're publishing Blade Dancer. While they're known for quirky turn-based strategy RPGs, this new title pushes them into real-time RPG territory.

The story is set in a fantastical world where the infamous Dread Knight, who killed the legendary Blade Dancer, has returned. Of course, this unwanted return signals the onset of a demon empire and Lance, the hero of the game, must work to stop the Dread Knight. At his aid are some eclectic allies, including Tess, Felis and Gozan.

The gameworld is built in full 3D and features real-time enemy interaction (no random battles). If you wish to avoid battle, avoid the on-screen enemies. While walking around, you'll notice that the world is affected by the time of day. Once in battle, you'll be able to act in a real time fashion, where you'll attacks are based on the speed of your characters. Instead of magic points, the players use built-up Lunar power - but be careful as both the enemy and your team use the same Lunar gauge for skills, so your opponents can use your built-up power against you.

One of the nicer aspects of this title is the implementation of up to four player co-op. Each player controls their own character and can move freely in the game. When in battle, each player also controls their own character.

As seen in the likes of Atelier Iris and Star Ocean 3, Blade Dance will also feature Item Crafting. So if you enjoyed that aspect of those games, then Blade Dancer looks to give you a whole ton of new items to build.

Blade Dancer - Lineage of Light is slated for a July 2006 release.
