The inherent problem with movies that spoof other movies is that they basically have the stick to the general plot of the original movie, while trying to make us laugh. If the movie your spoofing had very little in the way of detailing plot, as in slasher films like Scream, then you have to hope that the comedic parts carry the film.

Scary Movie is funny, I will give it that. But, it's funny in a perverted, toilet-humor sense of the word. Imagine Porky's but a lot less refined. There are moments where the movie is laugh-out-loud funny, but there are equally as many moments where the jokes fall flat.

I will give Scary Movie it's kudos: it does manage to capture the weak-plotted concept of slasher flicks and fill it with vignettes of other movies that just manage to get caught in it's wake.

Scary Movie is a good rental. It won't change your life, but it will manage to make you laugh for a while.
