I will say this much for this movie: I went in expecting
it to suck. There was so much hype about this that I was sure
it'd be a big pile of crap. When I was through watching the
movie, I was mildly pleased.
Pleased... not converted to the church of Mel. This is a
good, old-fashioned war flick with a number of the common
themes found in all war movies. The scenes between the actors
are well portrayed and I have nothing but good things to say
of the cast. The battles themselves are nice, but, to be honest,
kind of dry. I guess you can't expect much out of two rows
of soldiers shooting at each other after seeing the horror
and bloodshed of Braveheart or Saving Private Ryan. I myself
found the one fight between Mel and the 20 British troops
to be much more charging.
If you go to see this movie just to be entertained, you wont
be disappointed. Just don't go to see it if you think it's
going to be the same adrenalin-pumping epic that BraveHeart
was.
If you can get past the predictable plot, you'll really enjoy
this film.
